Instructions to Authors
Submission of Papers:

Original articles satisfying the aims and scope of the journal should be submitted to the journal. The articles can be submitted as "Regular Papers", "Short Papers", and "Survey articles". The paper submission and management is completely electronic. You need to use our online system PAA-Online (you need to login using the button at the top and if you have not used the system then you need to register as a new user). The papers should be submitted in PDF format and any accompanying material needs to be submitted as a .ZIP file.

The submitted papers to the journal will be assigned to Associate Editors who are experts in the area of the submission. The Associate Editor will handle the paper through the refereeing process and recommend a final decision to the Editor-in-Chief.

Copyright transfer form:

Once your paper has been accepted for publication, then you will get an automated email from the publisher asking you to fill in copyright forms through their onlien portal. No paper forms are needed anymore

The journal aims to rapidly publish high quality articles and this process can be assisted if authors would read the following instructions carefully.

Terms of Submission:

Papers must be submitted to Pattern Analysis and Applications journal on the understanding that they have not been published elsewhere and are not currently under consideration by another journal. The material of the submitted manuscript must not be published in part in a journal or conference of size more than 25% of the total manuscript. The main author is responsible for ensuring that the article has been seen and approved by all the other authors; the covering letter accompanying the manuscript should be signed by all authors to this effect. It is the responsibility of the author to ensure that articles emanating from a particular institution are submitted with the approval of the necessary authority. The Editor retains the right to modify the style and length of a contribution (major changes being agreed with the main author) and to decide the time of publication. The original and four copies of the manuscript should be submitted, accompanied by four sets of illustrations to aid refereeing. Authors should retain a copy of the paper as the Editor can not accept any responsibility for loss or damage.

Format of Submission:

Please submit your manuscript based on the instructions given here. You also need to submit an Originality and Contribution page as discussed below.

Originality and Contribution

This description should be no more than 250 words and should detail how original the work submitted is and its potential contribution to the field of pattern analysis and applications. In particular, focus on the practical applications of the submitted research. This section can appear immediately after Abstract or on a separate page before the start of the paper.

Accepted Manuscript Submission:

Once the papers are accepted, the authors are requested for the final formatted paper. Authors can submit their final formatted paper through the PAA-Online system. You should upload a ZIP file containing the following documentation (one zip file per item as follows) : (a) The paper in either Word or LaTex format [MS Word Intructions [Download] ] [LaTex Instructions [Download] ]. The paper should contain as the last section of the paper, the "Originality and Contribution" section which should be no more than 250 words. This section should detail the novelty and contribution of the paper. (b) Biographies of the authors (max 100 words per author). (c) Photographs of the author as .jpeg or .gif files at a minimum resolution of 100 dpi.

Decision from Editor
The editor can either recommend that:
The paper is accepted without or minor changes
The paper needs another round of revision but it has potential
The paper needs major improvements on restructuring and technical rigour, and is best submitted as a new paper
The paper is not worth publication and further rounds of refereeing and should be rejected. Any further submissions are treated as new papers.

The following explains what to do when you receive these decisions:
a) 'Paper Accepted with or without Minor Changes': Please prepare a camera ready version of your paper and submit it by following the 'Submit Camera Ready paper' link from your accepted paper, taking into account any final comments from Associate Editor and referees. Do NOT submit camera ready papers as NEW submissions.
b)'Paper Rejected': If your paper has been rejected, and if you wish to resubmit, then please note that it will be treated as a new paper completely. c)'Resubmit as a New Paper': This means that the concerned Associate Editor believes that this is not an outright rejected paper and has potential. However it needs major reworking before it can be considered for publication. Please submit your subsequent revised version as a New and not Revised Paper. Please do this within 6 weeks of receiving your decision. d)'Resubmit with Revisions': Please resubmit your revised paper within 6 weeks of receiving the final decision. Please submit the revised paper by following the 'Submit Revised Paper' link from your original paper. Please do NOT submit revised papers as NEW submissions. It is our intention that the same Associate Editor and as much as possible the same referees (as deemed suitable by the AE) will handle the revised paper. The paper should be accompanied by a response to each referee. You must respond to ALL referees- please submit NULL responses (empty pdf files) for those referees whoses comments need not be addressed. Please make sure that adequate changes are made to the manuscript before the resubmission. It is important to note that a decision to re-review the manuscript does not guarantee a positive outcome unless the revisions are satisfactory.

The number of revisions can be substantially reduced if referee comments are comprehensively addressed. Any complaints or queries can be registered directly with the Editorial Administrator Sarah Lunn at paaonline@gmail.com

Submitting Revised and Camera Ready Papers
These should be submitted within a deadline of 6 weeks from the date of hearing the decision. Please follow the links from your original manuscript details to submit these (DO NOT submit revised and camera ready papers as totally new papers).

Proofs:

Corrected proofs must be returned to the publisher within 48 hours of receipt to minimise the risk of the author's contribution having to be held for a later issue. The publisher will do everything possible to ensure prompt publication of accepted manuscripts. It would be therefore appreciated if manuscripts and illustrations conform from the outset to the style of the Journal.

Offprints and Reprints:

Offprints and Reprints: The publisher will provide 25 offprints of each paper free of charge to the main author. Additional copies may be purchased on an offprint order form which will accompany the proofs. Reprints of published articles can be purchased on request. A written quotation can be obtained from Springer-Verlag London office.

Case Studies and Short Papers:

Contributors are particularly encouraged to present case-studies which describe the success and failures of pattern analysis technology in various domains. In most cases, such work will be associated with industrial applications. It is the responsibility of the authors to ensure that all copyright permissions are sought if applicable before publishing on copyright data or patented techniques. Case studies may describe new patents in the area with their successful applications. Case-studies may be submitted in the same format as standard papers and should mention the keyword "Case-study" on the title page. The case-studies will be reviewed by two referees and the Editor. It is requested to keep case-studies of manageable size to expedite their publication. Paper submissions will be evaluated by the referees and the editor for 'Short Paper' publication. Short papers must not exceed 10 double spaced pages of text accompanied by any number of pages containing figures or tables.

Authors interested in writing book reviews on newly published books related to pattern analysis and applications should contact the Editor-in-chief with a brief abstract containing: the details of the book, reviewer's details and relevance of the review to the readers of this journal. General ReviewsThese reviews should not exceed more than 500 words. They may include:
